Erasing Skin Damage From the Sun
Like many people this summer, I have spent countless hours in the sun from vacations at the beach to yard work. Even with the constant application of sunblock, we are still damaging our skin. How do I get rid of skin damage, such as sun spots and redness?

Skin damage can be treated with the Palomar’s Icon® Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photo-rejuvenation treatment. With this treatment, you can discover renewed, vibrant skin. This treatment is indicated for hyperpigmentation (sun spots) and vascular areas (redness). It evens out the color of the skin, smoothing out red and brown spots. The areas usually treated are the face, neck, hands, arms, back, legs and other areas exposed to the sun.

Treatment
The treatment consists of moving the handpiece over your skin, pulsing regularly. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.

Post-treatment
Immediately after treatment, you can expect some mild redness to your skin and the sensation of heat. This usually lasts 2 to 24 hours.

After the treatment for sun spots and sun damage, the sun spots will darken after treatment and will naturally shed from the skin within 1 to 2 weeks. After the treatment for rosacea, the skin tone will show less pronounced redness within a week after treatments. Typically, a few visits will be necessary to treat sun spots, rosacea and vessels.

In an interview in the March 2014 issue of Shape Magazine, Sharon Stone, 56, discusses her career, health and how she stays looking great without going under the knife. When asked: “Short of surgery, are there any anti-aging procedures that you are willing to try?”, Sharon replied: “I fully believe in getting treatments like intense pulsed light therapy – which removes sun damage. It’s healthy, non-invasive, and it rejuvenates the collagen in your skin. These kinds of things are fantastic advances in science.”

OVERCOMING FEARS OF NEUROTOXINS AND FILLERS

So you’re feeling a bit nervous about getting neurotoxins or fillers? You’re not alone. Fears are natural. We all have them.

Fears and uncertainties are normal, especially when it concerns cosmetic enhancement of any kind. Here’s what most people want to know about facial rejuvenation.

“Will I End Up With a Frozen Face?”
Many people fear a “frozen” look after receiving Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport and this is a realistic fear given the results you may have seen when people go to extremes. My goal is for you to have a natural and more rested appearance. Neurotoxins and fillers are very effective for prevention of developing lines and wrinkles.

“What Can I Expect from Neurotoxins?”
Most patients report that injections from Neurotoxins (Botox, Xeomin and Dysport) are minimally painful especially when topical numbing cream is applied to the site prior to injection. At most, they may feel like a mosquito bite or as some patients have put it, “like squeezing a pimple.” The procedure involves injecting a small amount of fluid just underneath the skin with an insulin syringe, which is a tiny needle. The concept of neurotoxin injections is actually scarier than the procedure itself. There is minimal bleeding if any at all, and you can return to normal activities immediately afterward.

“What Can I Expect from Dermal Fillers?”
Dermal fillers (Juvaderm, Perlane, Restylane, Radiesse and Belotero) can be a little uncomfortable to receive, but most products contain Lidocaine in the product so as to decrease discomfort in addition to the topical numbing agent on the skin. Because swelling and bruising may occur, recovery can take 3 to 7 days depending on the area being treated. Patients tell me that the 15 minutes of minimal discomfort is worth the 6 to 12 months of enhanced beauty!

FALL MAKE-UP COLORS

The fall season is almost upon us and now is the time to be thinking about changing make-up colors!

This fall’s make-up trend is color! Below is the Fall Look for Glo Luxe. With looks like jewel-toned eyes, bright cherry lips, and gold everything, this season isn’t the time to be a beauty wallflower. But thankfully, these rainbow-bright updates on classic looks are totally wearable. Here’s the trends this fall.

Gold Rush Eyes
Gold is the easiest way to infuse new life into tried-and-true looks like the neutral or smoky eye. Whether you pick a shadow that’s shimmery or matte, the warm flecks in a gold shade will brighten up every eye color. To keep the color looking modern and chic, skip shadows with chunky glitter and go for a more sophisticated sheen.

Buy it: Glo Eye Shadow in Copper Sheen

Wear it: For daytime, use your fingertip to smooth shadow onto the inner corner of your eyes, where it will create a pretty, brightening effect. Skip eyeliner entirely, and put on two coats of black mascara. Dab a bit of the same gold shadow over your favorite lipstick, and
you’re ready to go.

For after-hours, a bit of gold shadow takes smoky eyes from sooty to smoldering. Start by rimming your eyes with Glo’s precise micro eyeliner in black. Brush a matte charcoal shadow lightly over your lids and into the creases. Finish by dusting gold shadow over and above the charcoal for a rich, shimmery effect.

Bright, Juicy Lips
Red lips never go out of style, but what makes them fresh and fun this fall is the amped-up color. Hues range from neon cherry to souped-up scarlet-definitely not your grandmother’s red lipstick.

Buy it: Glo Vixen Lipstick

Wear it: For a modern, stain-like effect perfect for daytime, apply lipstick directly from the tube to the center of your lips only, then lightly pat the color out toward your lip line using your fingers.

For a more polished, dramatic pop of color, start by priming lips with a light layer of foundation. Allow it to dry for a few seconds, then line your lips with a nude-colored liner to prevent bleeding (never use red liner-you’ll be stuck with a scarlet outline when your lipstick fades). Next, apply color using a lip brush, starting at the center of your lips and working your way out. Blot with a tissue and apply again in the same way. Remember, the goal is a light, smooth wash of moist color-not a thick, matte mask.

Jewel-Toned Eyes
If dark, muted liners are the little black dress of your makeup collection, the new crop of brights-purple, blue, green, and teal-are the sexy stilettos that steal the show (and they’re surprisingly a lot easier to wear). Just keep the pop of color at your eyes only-pair them with barely-there, nude-toned lips.

Buy it: Glo Eye Pencil in Twilight or Glo’s Alloy Eyes Collection

Wear it: The most subtle, forgiving way to wear a bright eye color is
a soft, sheer smudge on your lids. Just run eyeliner from your inner
to outer lash line, then smudge it with your finger. Apply mascara to upper lashes only to really accentuate the look.

For a more dramatic, saturated effect, use shadow instead of liner. Using a brush, apply the color from your lash line to crease, adding layers until it’s as bright as you want to go. Then, run the brush along your lower lash line so the color surrounds your eye. Skip eyeliner so the look doesn’t get too heavy.
